Accor Enhances Commitment to the Commutity with Perkins School
9.22.2009
Twice a year the members of the Accor Services USA sales team gather to discuss strategy, sales goals and achievements; however, this year was different. Accor Services USA decided to embark on a new commitment to giving back to the local community by volunteering.
Accor Services USA chose the Perkins School for the Blind, which provides services to students and clients who are blind, visually impaired, deafblind or have multiple disabilities. It is made up of a team of educators, innovators, parents, alumni, donors, volunteers, teachers, and staff members who believe in the Perkin’s mission.
On August 17th, the Accor sales team went to Perkins School for a full day of volunteering. They started off the day with an orientation and learned about the school’s history. The Perkins coordinator put the team to the test with several activities to do while being blind folded. Each team member got to experience what it is like to do daily activities blind.
Then the group was split into two teams, one delegated to building boxes to ship out the books printed in Braille across the world. Some of those countries included Tunisia, India, and Trinidad & Tobago. While the second team had to stuff envelopes, label them, and organize the mailing list to be sent out to the members of the Perkins program.
The team truly had a great experience helping out a very deserving organization. This was just the kick-off to a full commitment from the Accor Services USA to volunteer on a monthly basis starting in October.
