What is 4C?
4C is an environmentally themed program that helps our clients and partners draw a bold line between their commuter benefit programs and preserving and protecting our environment. We have developed the 4C Commuter Survey that defines your employees’ commuting needs, gathers information and feedback about various aspects of their commute, and describes their feelings about commuting and the commuter benefit program. So far this year, we have surveyed over 35 thousand employees and analyzed the data; we’d like to share some key metrics and trends we found and how 4C can help.
48% of survey respondents were not aware of the Commuter Benefit Program offered by their employer.
74% of survey respondents who are aware of the program did not participate in the benefit and reported a wide array of misconceptions that led to their lack of interest in the program.
4C provides our partners with comprehensive communication materials and custom designed campaigns to improve employee education about the commuter benefit, how it saves them money and preserves our environment. We use our expertise in the commuter business, geographic research, data from the EPA and other environmental agencies, apply it to the data your employees share with us in the survey and create a program that’s tailored to your company’s needs and goals.
Common Misconceptions about the Commuter Benefit
We realized that the misconceptions we gathered from survey respondent might resonate with our clients. Here are just a few that were reported:
How did Participants Rate the Commuter Benefit?
97% of survey respondents that did participate in the program said they would recommend it to a co-worker.
One of 4C’s components is our Refer-a- Friend program. This program can be incentivized for those who want to increase their benefit utilization and provide a cost effective (often budget neutral) employee recognition program.
Why 4C is the Answer Now
65% of respondents that drive to work said that they would consider changing their commute for the following reasons:

These are impressive numbers that show that our client’s employees are indeed interested in learning more about commuting options, are concerned about the cost of driving, and most notably, more of them are interested in the environmental impact of their commute than the pre-tax savings aspect of their commuter benefits. 4C is designed to respond to this feedback. The data here tells the 4C team that we need to craft messaging that provides information to participants and would-be participants about how their commuter benefit program can address these concerns.
Want to encourage employees to preserve our environment? Consider having the 4C team create a program to encourage your current parking participants to take public transportation just one day a week. We can help with incentive plans, contests, and custom targeted communications campaigns and most importantly, employees can save on their commute by placing their order online for a transit pass, ticket or voucher good for one ride wherever they are.
